This little one wasn't too sure about the slide but he went down it none the less, tomorrow I will show you the result of the trip down the slide!
We have a new source for Photo of the day, I met Alice whilst volunteering at Bifengxia. She has agreed to show us some of her wonderful photos from her trip. She visited Chengdu Research Centre before going to Bifengxia. So her photos will be from both places.
Welcome Alice. Here's her first post.
This is one of the toddlers at the research base in Chengdu, he kept getting himself stuck over the banister, with his front legs one side and his back legs the other, it would take him about 10 minutes to free himself and then would do it again!
Here is another photo of 2007's cubs. When we appeared at the fence then charged over to see us. I think they were hoping for food. When they realised we didn't have any they became bored with us and wondered off.
This panda who is feeling rather sorry for him self is Mei Sheng. Yes the infamous panda from San Diego. We picked a bad day to visit as he had to be locked in his cage and did not think much to that. It wasn't till the last week I was there that I found out where he was. Though I had got close to his home a few times.
On May 11th the worse earthquake for a generation struck China, 6 months on the reference points to a report on what is happening now to the residents who were hit by the quake.
Whilst not strictly about pandas, (There is a picture of a panda in the report). I thought you might be interested in this report as the earthquake effect people and animals alike.
Thanks to Ivan for the link
Another Photo of our acrobat. Yes he did land on the floor but he just got up and carried on with the show what a trooper.
Well I'm sad to say that it's getting more and more difficult to pick good photos from my collection. Though I did take over 900. Lots of them are very similar and some just turned out bad. So unless I start posting nearly identical photos. I think I've reached the end of the photos I want to show. It is also becoming harder to write the little stories to the photos.
So over to you. Have you found an hidden gem in my photo collection and want to share it with us. Do you have a photo you have taken and wish to share with us?
Let me know what you would like me to do.
I found another photo of the adorable cub who was doing acrobatics on the ladder. This was taken just before he started I think he was working out his routine and building up the energy needed.
Don't you just want to reach in and rub Mei Qing's tummy? Not advisable though, as a couple of people can testify to this year.
The other panda living in the same set of enclosures as Ge Ge and Wei Wei is Yuan Yuan. He greated us each morning as we walked down the slope to leopard mountain. Though I never really got a good photograph of him.
The Secretary General of China Wildlife Conservation Association paid a visit to the base at Ya'an where he inspected the pandas who were moved from the Wolong base after the quake. He was very pleased to find that the pandas were in good health both physically and mentally. He also inspected the tempoary accomodation for the pandas till the new facilities are ready.
He also paid a special tribute the keepers who were at Wolong at the time of the quake and the efforts they took to save the pandas. He also praised the work they are currently doing to make a better tomorrow for the pandas.
I thought I'd already posted this one but can't seem to find it. Do let me know if you find it on the site.
One Friday afternoon after work we were picked up by the little bus, that ferries people around the base and had gone to pick the workers from the Kindergarten area. There waiting in the entrance of the kindergarten build was a small panda in a cage. What he was doing there I never found out. Everybody was rushing around getting ready to catch the bus to the main entrace and just ignoring this little cutie.
