On my last day, We was walking back from lunch when Lorraine spotted that three of the pandas in the Kindergarten were out. These two were sitting together and the other ??? Find out tomorrow.
Once again this is my little girl Mei Qing. She is enjoying herself munching down on Panda Cake(Also known as panda bread, panda biscuit) It's made from Flour, rice bamboo and vitimins and stuff. I noticed that pandas like to lay on their backs when eating if they're happy. Which at Bifengxia is quite a lot.
Researchers from University of York and the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh with Sichuan University and the Kunming Institute of Botany in China, have been studying the effects of climate change on bamboo.
The results are really interesting whilst some spices become rare others thrive. The results will help to prepare plans for the continuing survival of our beloved bears and other wild animals.
It seems that the new panda house for the pair of pandas (Tuantuan and Yuanyuan) going to Taipei, Taiwan is ready and waiting for their new family. There will be a public announcement later this week to say when the pair will arrive, but they are expected to leave their current home at the end of this month and will arrive early next. There will be a period when the pandas will not be seen by the adoring public and expected to go on public view early next year.
I hope you like your new home Tuantuan and Yuanyuan.
Once again this is Mei Qing, one of the pandas I looked after. When she first came to my station she would just sit in her bed, head on paw wating for you to bring food to her. Sometimes when I called her would move her bum over the side of her bed and do her stuff! :) Gross, that's not what I wanted. Then I would show her an apple or panda bread then she'd come. By the end of my time there I would look through the window at her and by the time I had unlocked the door she was waiting by her bars for her food. She got to know that I brought food. I loved feeding the pandas.
This is a male panda, and what he is doing up the wall is urinating. They do this as a way of saying how big and macho they are. The higher up it is the more macho he is.
This is the same new cub as yesterday, but here being huggled by his mother. It was such a tender moment to watch mum and cub, Pandas make such good mothers.
Experts are recommending that a new railway between Chengdu and Lanzhou, take a more expensive route to minimise the effects it will have on pandas.
The second Friday I was there the keeper who was working with the other volunteers got permission to take us up to the Breeding Centre. We had to be very quie, no flash were allowed when taking photos and we weren't allowed in the building itself but looked through the windows. Once there we got to see this years babies with their mothers. It was beautiful I took a lot of photos, though not very many were that good because of the low light. This little chap/ess was taken by the keeper inside the building.
Zhang Liangying a famous singer in China, was excited to have her photo taken with one of this years cubs.
Mr. Terry Guo, CEO of Taiwan Foxconn Group. along with his entourage visited Chengdu Research Base, after opening the 9th West China Expo, Earlier Mr Guo and other top level executives adopted 3 pair of pandas for life. Mr Gou also adopted a pairof pandas personally, Fu Fu and Kang Kang.
This is Mei Qing. I have to admit she became my favourite. She replaced Jin Zhou when she was taken to the Breeding Centre to be watched. I helped to carry Mei Qing from the back of the van up the steep slope to her bedroom. My pandas are heavy, I was glad when I could put her down. It's very difficult to carry such a large heavy bear in a cage, as you can't get too close to the cage in case she becomes frighted and takes a swipe at you. As they have very sharp claws.
