Well it's silly o'clock on Sunday 4th December 2011, and we're getting ready to go see Tian Tian and Yang Yuang arrive at Edinburgh Zoo.

Hopefully I have some amazing technology that will allow me to post some pictures almost live to the PandaNews.org Facebook page, so please have a look.

As all things technical I'm not promising it will work, but here's hoping.

I've just been informed that the Edinburgh Zoo's new Giant Pandas are due to arrive at the main gates of Edinburgh Zoo at around 1:40 in the afternoon.

The zoo plans to give them a true Scottish welcome.

Is there anyone is the area that is planning on going? I'd love to receive videos / photos of the event.

    The Pandas Are Coming!

UK Arrival Date for Giant Pandas Officially Confirmed
    as Sunday 4 December

Following months of global anticipation and excitement, the arrival date for Scotland’s first pair of breeding giant pandas has been confirmed as Sunday 4 December.

  • 2011-11-27

Edinburgh Zoo's Giant Pandas are arriving on December 4th 2011, according to the Scotsman.com. The zoo has not confirmed this, but it fits in with what we have been eagerly anticipating for the last 6 months.

The plan to obtain Tian Tian and Yang Guan started in 2008, when Edinburgh Zoo officials visited China to begin talks. Soon afterwards, the terrible earthquake of May 12th 2008 struck, putting plans on hold as the Wolong Panda Centre was all but destroyed and attention was turned to moving the pandas to Bifengxia and other centres around China.

Yang Guan and Tian Tian the two pandas who will be arriving at Edinburgh Zoo any time now, have been given their own Scottish Tartan.

The Scottish tartan goes back hundreds of years as a way of identify members of a clan. The new panda Tartan is primarily made up of black and white the colours of the panda with some gray to soften it, there is also red which symbolizes China, and green to represent bamboo the pandas main food source.

Yaya from Chongqing Zoo has given birth to twins on the 4th of September 2011.

These are the third and fourth cubs that Yaya has given birth to in the ten years that she has been at Chongqing.

According to "Dragon Soft" one of the cubs is male and has been transferred to Bifeng Xia. The other will remain with Yaya, in the sweltering 40C heat of Chongqing - that's way too hot for pandas, lets hope the air conditioning keeps working.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that her namesake in Memphis USA, has a cub soon as well.

A good panda friend of mine Chet Chin, recently visited, Bifeng Xia and asked the keepers there to point out Mei Qing's Son to her, then moved him slightly from the rest of the group and she took some photos of him. I thought you might want to see how he's grown.

Many thanks to Chet for thinking of me and going to the trouble of taking a photo of him.

It was CBS and they made her an offer she couldn't refuse.
