Edinburgh Zoo's Giant Pandas are arriving on December 4th 2011, according to the Scotsman.com. The zoo has not confirmed this, but it fits in with what we have been eagerly anticipating for the last 6 months.
The plan to obtain Tian Tian and Yang Guan started in 2008, when Edinburgh Zoo officials visited China to begin talks. Soon afterwards, the terrible earthquake of May 12th 2008 struck, putting plans on hold as the Wolong Panda Centre was all but destroyed and attention was turned to moving the pandas to Bifengxia and other centres around China.
The zoo has spent £250,000 on building the state of the art enclosures for the pair and the arrival was delayed when representatives from China found that the enclosures were not quite up to standard and changes had to be made.
The zoo will also be spending £100,000 a year on food the pair, bamboo is being delivered from abroad every 2 weeks and kept under refrigeration.
(don't tell the boss, but I will following this story very closely this week and will let you know what's happening as soon as I can)
