Experts are recommending that a new railway between Chengdu and Lanzhou, take a more expensive route to minimise the effects it will have on pandas.
The plans also include a tunnel and reduced trains at night. So the noise will not scare the pandas. The original plan would of cut through 14 km of panda land and 3 World Heritage sites. The areas that could of been effected are Jiuzhaigou Natural Scenic Reserve; Huanglong (Yellow Dragon) Temple scenic area; Wolong Nature Reserve, popularly known as the "home of giant panda"; and Dujiangyan, a city famed for having the earliest irrigation system in the world.
