On March 11th, the north line of CCRCGP's "Thanks Tourism around China" arrived at Shanghai Wildlife Zoo and visited the four pandas (Jai Si, Rong Rong, Ya Ao and Tong Tong) The members of the northline are happy to see that the pandas are doing well and enjoying their life in Shanghai Zoo.
March 10th 2009, the members of the south line, obtains the palm prints from the 5 pandas they are fostering after the 2008 earthquake. The collection of the palm prints goes very well as the pandas are trained in presenting their arms, this is usually used to draw blood for examinations.
The pandas at Panyu are Xian Nv, Yao Yao, Li Li, Ting Ting, and Bai Yang.
March 9th 2009, "Love is the most beautiful" the theme song of the "Thanks Tourism" trip, is sung by 16 primary students begins the thanks ceremony in Nanjing. The 16 students are dressed in panda clothes.
In the ceremony, CCRCGP send several gifts to Nanjing Hongshan Zoo including the water and soil of Wolong, the palm prints of the 13 panda cubs born in 2008 after the earthquake and a Chinese brush drawing of the 13 cubs.
March 8th 2009, the southline of "Thanks Tourism" arrives as the second station on it's trip. Huangzhou Xiangjiang Safari Park. The team led by Mr Zhou Ziaoping, the assistant Chief Engineer of CCRCGP inspects all the facilities for the pandas. He asks many questions about the health of the pandas and their behaviour.
The pandas seem very excited, perhaps they know their old friends are visiting.
The pandas are very healthy and have put on around 10kg each on average. Mr Zhou reminds the keepers to control the increase of their weight.
2009/03/14. CCRCGP held a "Thanks Ceremony" in Shanghai at theeeeeee Shanghai Wildlife zoo, to say thank you for their support during Wolongs darkest hour on May 12th 2009. The Ceremony included gifts to Shanghai Wildlife Zoo of water and soil from Wolong, a scroll print of the 13 cubs born in 2008 at Bifengxia along with paw prints of the cubs.
Whilst Shanghai did not foster any additional pandas after the quake they did give them support in other ways.
At the Ceremony 4 Shanghai citizens were given "Love Citizens" certificates for their help and support to Wolong's pandas.
The Taipei times is reporting that zoo officials at Taipei zoo are allowing less visitors to see Giant Pandas Yuan Yuan and Tuan Tuan on weekdays. From 400 people every 10 minutes to 300 giving more space for each visitor and encouraging people to visit the pandas on weekend.
Visitors will also be able to see the pandas without getting a ticket from the main gates, by waiting in a special line and staff will allow them to go in when there is space.
More than half a million people have seen the pair since they first went on display in January 2009.
The pandas at San Diego Zoo are likely to keep moving between enclosures whilst work is carried out to install the new bamboo chiller, that was funded by emergency donations of this website and other panda lovers around the world.
The work involves the use of jack hammers, and heavy machinery. To minimise stress to the pandas they will be moved to quiter parts of their panda complex. Then moved back once the stressful parts are completed.
China view is reporting that the first panda disease control centre in China, should be completed by the end of 2010.
The centre was started in 2007 at Wolong National Nature Reserve, but the earthquake in 2008 caused severe damage and the centre has been relocated to Shiqiao village, Qingchengshan, Dujianyan City.
The new centre will contain a veterinary hospital and 40 pens.
March 7th 2009.
CCRCGP helds a Thank you Ceremony for Yunnan. The ceremony is held near the gates of Yunnan Wildlife Park.
The ceremony is opened with a lion dance, then 26 children from Kumming Boai Rehabilitation centre for hearing impared and 26 actors sing the theme song of "Thanks Tourism Love is the most beautiful". 26 Children and actors were chosen as this represents Yunnan's 26 nationalities and the 26 Giant Pandas fostered out after the quake.
