When she arrived at Chengdu she weighed 86kg (190 lbs). but that dropped to 83kg (182 lbs) as she struggled to come to terms with her move.

Her keepers were very concerned and gave her special treatment to help her get use to her new surroundings and now she weighs 88kg (194lbs).

Her keeper Chen Min told reporters "The baby girl is very different with other pandas, more than 3 years old this age are generally more playful pandas, but Mei Lin has a gentle temperament and elegant. She eats bamboo, apples very slowly and cleanly"

It is expected that Meilan will come in to heat next year, and will take part in the Panda Breeding Programme. A suitable boyfriend is currently being looked for. Which depends on the health of the male panda along with her gene pool.
