Devra G Kleiman Dies Aged 67

2010-May-05

It is with great sadness that we have to report that Devra G. Kleiman passed away on April 29th.

Devra was a ground breaking biologist with a career of over 40 years most of which was at the National Zoo Washington.

Devra lead the team that tried to breed Hsing-Hsing and Ling-Ling and was instrumental in showing zoo's that they could help save endangered species.

Some say her greatest achievement was to get zoo's not to sell for a profit their critically endangered Golden lion tamarins but instead loan them to each other to breed and eventually give up title to them to the Brazilian government.

Due to her efforts the Golden lion tamarins have been moved from the critically endangered list to the endangered list.
