The Calgary Herald is reporting that Calgary Herald wants to obtain a pair of breeding pandas. For the past six months officials from Calgary Zoo have been talking with Chinese authorities.
The talks are still in the early stages and it could be months or even years to bring to fruition if at all.
Last month a major step forward was taken when Treasury Board president Stockwell Day presented a panda proposal to a high ranking Chinese politician.
There are another two zoos in Canada who are interested in obtaining pandas, Toronto and Granby.
Calgary Zoo spokeswoman Laurie Herron said that ideally the three zoos would set up an agreement to house the pandas for a set amount of time in each location to give visitors across Canada the chance to see the animals.
