Panda News from around the world
  • News 163.com is reporting that 10 of the pandas born in 2008 at Bifengxia will travel to Shanghai for the world Expo next year.

According to my research there were 11 pandas born at BFX last year, so I'm unsure if all 11 will be sent to Shanghai or 10 of the 11, or indeed there were only 10 cubs born last yeat at BFX.

Does anyone else have any additional information?

    UPDATE

Thanks to Jérôme and Annette, who pointed out that there is in fact 13 Panda Cubs born in 2008 living at BFX, My records had the extra 2 being born at Chengdu.

It has been reported that if they do well there then next year they could be moved into the new semi wild area that is currently being built.

  • This is another little panda that was being fed as the same time as yesterdays picture. S/he was very sweet and was "Crawling" all over his blanket and under his cushion.

  • This little panda was just being fed and encouraged to go toilet when I went to the Panda Kindergarten to talk to one of the staff there about my flight to Shanghai.

When pandas are born they are very undeveloped and need lots of care and attention from mum / keepers as they can not do a lot of things for themselves.

  • On 24th October 2008, CCRCGP at Bifengxia held the naming ceremony for Ping ping and An an. Iw was a big event as they were the first cubs born after the quake. • The following news story I found on the daily mail web site mentions that the first set of twins born this year have turned 100 days old and are having a naming ceremony but fails to mention their names. Does anyone know?

As these adorable twin giant panda cubs playfully roll around on the floor, they seem worlds away from the devastating earthquake that destroyed much of their habitat in south west China.

They are one of the first twins delivered this year at the Bifengcia base of the China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center in Yaan, in the Sichuan Province.

  • On October 5th, 2008, the Panda Ambassador of China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda Mr. Huang Xiaoming takes a special trip to Ya'an Bifengxia Base and see the two cubs he adopted. He also takes a trailer for the two cubs for their 100-day celebration. Since the Wenchuan earthquake, Huang Xiaoming concerns the giant pandas at Wolong very much. When he learns that Guo Guo gave birth to a pair of twin cubs, he applies for adopting the cubs to the Research Center and does what he can for their healthy growth.

  • Zhu Yun, also gave birth whilst I was working at Bifengxia.

  • It looks like a panda cub that was born on the 13th of July to Ying ying, went without me noticing. Though Performing a google search didn't bring show him / her up.

So now we have 5 Panda Cubs this year.
I will update the Pandas Born in 2008 post.
