Panda News from around the world
  • Panda House the blog of Chengdu's Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding have released some new photos of Mei Lan, the Giant Panda who was born in Atlanta USA and now lives in Chengdu. There's alot of photos here, but head over to the reference link to see even more.

The site is in Chinese, just enjoy the photos.

She has became one beautiful young panda lady.

  • Pandas International has released a newsletter stating that everyone's favourite Giant Panda Tai Shan who went to China will get his own Panda Cam.

Tanks to the generosity of Tai's friend and especially one lady who donated the cost of running a new Internet cable from Ya'an to the Bifengxia base.

The equipment has been ordered and the staff are preparing Tai Shan's Home for the work involved.

Once the cam is live I will of course update the "Panda Cams" page.

  • It took a little while but Mei Lan has come to terms with her move from Zoo Atlanta to The breeding centre at Chungdu.

  • March 9th 2010 Tai Shan the darling from the National Zoo, Washington DC, America has left quarantine with a clean bill of health and moved in to his new home.

  • The Wolong Panda Club, has said that Tai Shan will come out of isolation on March the 9th 2010, and will be on display in Leopard Mountain Villa Number 5.

The villa has about 30 meters square of indoor bedroom and about 1,000 meter squared of outside enclosure.

Staff said that Tai Shan is in very good physical and mental condition and has increased his weight whilst in isolation.

I think there will be some kind of ceremony when he moves to his new home.

  • Mei Lan has been selected by the WWF as the Global Ambassador of Earth Hour.

At 8:30 pm on saturday 27 March, millions of people around the world will turn off their lights for one hour to show to the world what can be done to resolve the delemma of global warming.

Mei Lan took up her role in her new home town of Chengdu, the first city in China to support Earth Hour 2010.

On a side note it appears that Mei Lan doesn't like Chinese New Year, as all the firecrackers disturbed her, and she was seen running around her cage.

  • Unless you've been hiding under a rock the news has been full of the departure of two giant pandas from America to China.

  • Whilst we were at Zoo Atlanta, little Xi Lan was very playful and wouldn't leave mum alone.

    Check out the video below.

    BTW it's not me laughing!

  • We had a wonderful day yesterday at Zoo Atlanta.

We meet some wonderful people there, the volunteers are brilliant, friendly and very knowledgeable.

I hope you enjoy the photos.

  • Hello from Washington DC,

Having a great time, managed to get to the zoo yesterday but it was pouring down with rain. All the pandas were snoozing inside, I did manage to take a few photos but I'm not that impressed with them, going back to day to see if I can do better, as it looks like it's going to be a beautiful day.
