  • The cub that was born on the 26th of August to Ying Ying could of been sired by Mei Sheng, the giant panda that was born in San Diego Zoo and returned to China.

Mei Sheng was one of two pandas who mated with Ying Ying when she came into season. The other panda who mated with Ying Ying was Lu Lu

Mei Sheng was only mated with Ying Ying. It was the first time that he had been mated.

Currently they do not know who the father is, but DNA tests could be done to establish the father, as such is the interest in Mei Sheng.

  • According to Sichuan Forestry Department's website, Mei Sheng Mated Naturally On May 8.

On May 8 at 9:28 am, 5-year-old male panda Mei Sheng and female panda Ying Ying mated naturally. This is Mei Sheng's first natural mating and it lasted 1 minute and 41 seconds.

  • This i think is an adorable picture of Mei Sheng, I also think this is a rather precarious position for such heavy animals, but he seemed very comfortable. Mei Sheng spent a long time up in his tree, he would only really come down at feeding time.[ I read somewhere that the pandas that come from the USA spend more time up trees that the Chinese born pandas (Andi)]

  • Unlike Andi and the other volunteers i was not in Leopard Mountain, i was in the private area that was not open to the public where the Pandas from Wolong were temporary living, the area that took Andi four weeks to find![It was only 3, and I did find the place just Mei Sheng who was hiding from me! (Andi)] I had the great pleasure of looking after Mei Sheng and this is him in his favourite place, up his tree, I have many pics of him in various poses, looking rather precarious, i'm not sure how the branches did not break off.

  • This panda who is feeling rather sorry for him self is Mei Sheng. Yes the infamous panda from San Diego. We picked a bad day to visit as he had to be locked in his cage and did not think much to that. It wasn't till the last week I was there that I found out where he was. Though I had got close to his home a few times.
