Panda News from around the world
  • I've gotten a report that Rau Hin at the Wakayma Zoo, Japan has given birth to twins.

Rau Hin, also know as Liang Bang was born on the 6th September 2000. This is her second set of twins.

Sorry for the short abrupt post, but I'm very busy with my 'proper' job but wanted to let you know.

  • Japan born Xing Bin has flown to Chengdu to start his life as a breeding panda.

Xing Bin is 4 years old, and as required by China that all cubs born outside of China, must go to China before they become full adults to take their place in the breeding programme.

  • Kouhin (Xing Bin) the nearly 5 year old Giant Panda born at Adventure World Japan, will be sent to Chengdu, the home of his parents on the 15th March 2010.

Two of his older siblings Ei Mei and Yu Hin have already gone to Chengdu and are part of the breeding program.

  • The twins who were born in Japan have been named, Meihin (female) and Eihin (male).

Meihin, the female cub, was born in early morning of Sept. 13 and Eihin, the male cub, about 70 minutes later. They weighed about 194 grams and about 116 grams at the time of their births.

They now both weigh over 2kg.

  • One-month-old twin panda cubs are held by zoo keepers during their first appearance before the public at Adventure World in Shirahama in central Japan over the weekend. The cubs -- one female and one male -- were born Sept. 13. It's unclear why the female, on the left, appears to be having a bad hair day.

  • It's with great sadness that I report that Mei mei died on Wednesday 15th October at Adventure World in Shirahama, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan.

WAKAYAMA (Kyodo) The giant panda Meimei, who gave birth to 10 cubs in China and Japan, has died, officials at Adventure World in Shirahama, Wakayama Prefecture, said Wednesday.
