  • Pambassador Yumiko Kajiwara has just come back from a trip to Beijing Zoo, where she got to meet the Pandas There. She has given me permission to use her photos for our "The Pandas" section.

  • I've gotten a report that Rau Hin at the Wakayma Zoo, Japan has given birth to twins.

    Rau Hin, also know as Liang Bang was born on the 6th September 2000. This is her second set of twins.

    Sorry for the short abrupt post, but I'm very busy with my 'proper' job but wanted to let you know.

  • I'm very sad to report that Shui Ling has died just weeks before her 3rd birthday.

    It's been reported that she had died of Mesenteric Torsion which is where the intestines get wrapped up and blood supply to them gets cut off causing the intestine to die and rot.

    The symptoms are very hard to spot until it is too late, then the animal dies of shock.

    Shui Ling is the daughter of Long Xin and younger sister of Fu Ni one of the pandas who was sent to Adelaide. Long Xin has had a total of 7 cubs so far.

  • I've got a report from news-163.com that the Giant Panda cub who was left with Ying Hua died 20 hours after being born. Reports say that the sister who was flown to Bifengxia is doing well.

    UPDATE: It appears that Ying Hua was too tired to notice that the little one had fallen off her body and was left exposed. The panda cub had a large area of haemorrhage to her right shoulder which effected her lungs

  • Wonderful news, I'm getting reports that a pair of Giant Pandas have been born at Beijing Zoological Park, China.

  • Japan born Xing Bin has flown to Chengdu to start his life as a breeding panda.

    Xing Bin is 4 years old, and as required by China that all cubs born outside of China, must go to China before they become full adults to take their place in the breeding programme.

  • Kouhin (Xing Bin) the nearly 5 year old Giant Panda born at Adventure World Japan, will be sent to Chengdu, the home of his parents on the 15th March 2010.

    Two of his older siblings Ei Mei and Yu Hin have already gone to Chengdu and are part of the breeding program.

  • I have had a report that Da Shuan at Chengdu Research Centre had a little girl on 28th September 2009.

    I was waiting for the official announcement but nothing so far.

    The source of the report is vary reliable, so I've decided to post the good news.

    Well done to Da Shuan, and all the staff at Chengdu.

  • The earthquake of May 12th 2008, is still causing problems for the giant panda programme in china.

    The earthquake which caused the death of nearly 80,000 people, left large areas of bamboo forest underneath landslides of mud and rocks, rendered some bamboo groves inaccessible and reduced tourism to the sites which depend on it the most.

  • Jackie Chan the famous film star has adopted two pandas from the Chengdu Research Centre. He named them "Cheng Cheng" and "Long Long" for a reported cost of 1 million yuan. (~£100,000 - ~$147,000).

    Jackie was appointed "Chengdu Panda Ambassador" by the Chengdu tourism authorities.

    It is also reported than Jackie plans to accept donations through his fan club for the pandas.

  • A feral cat was found dead in the playground of Cheng Gong, a panda at Chengdu Zoo. It seems that the cat had invaded the pandas territory and the panda had protected it's grounds.

    The cat was found by keeper Yang Cheng in the afternoon of May 3rd, it appeared to of been bitten to death by the panda. It appears that Cheng Gong had not eaten any the cat and was just defending it's territory.

    "The giant panda has a strong sense of territoriality. Either captive or wild pandas will defend their territory from intruders.” said Yang Cheng the pandas keeper.

  • China view is reporting that six Pandas have been transfered to Beijing Zoo to help celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

    The pandas Hua Ao, Jin Yi, Wen Yu, Xiang Ge, Shui Ling and Qing Feng took the two and a half flight to Beijing from their home at Bifengxia near Ya'an. After the journey some of the pandas staggered out of their transportation cages whilst other had to be coaxed out.

    The pandas are expected to make their first public appearance in Beijing on May the first.

  • The age is reporting that Gu Gu an eight year old panda living at Beijing Zoo has attacked someone else.

    This time student Li Xitao, jumped the 1.4 meter fence to get closer to the pandas, where Gu Gu and another panda were. Gu Gu took massive bites out of both the students legs, it's been reported that the bites were so bad that bone could be seen. Emergency medical officials said that chunks of the students legs were left in the ambulance.

    Gu Gu was later seen munching away on his bamboo, no news currently on the well being of the student, or if he will be charged.

  • China view is reporting that the eight Olympic pandas that went to Beijing for the Olympics will be returning home this Sunday.

    Since the pandas arrived in Beijing that have been seen by over two million visitors. After the news was released visitors have seized the chance to take more photos of the bears.

    Whilst the bears have been in Beijing can eat 159kg of Bamboo, 2kg of apples and other food a day. A remarkable difference since they first went when they only ate 2-3 kg of bamboo a day.

  • March 15th 2009, The north line of CCRCGP's "Thanks tourism around China" visited the 8 pandas sent to Beijing for the olympics.

  • On March 1st 2009 two teams from CCRCGP Wolong Base left from Chengdu TV station on a journey to thank the cities who took in 26 Giant Pandas from The Wolong Panda base after the terrible earthquake of May 12th 2008, left the base devastated, one giant panda dead and one missing, and 5 members of the reserve dead.

    53 Giant pandas were taken to Bifengxia their sister centre which was opened in 2003 to hold the extra pandas that Wolong bred. 26 Pandas were taken to 8 different cites around China and seven stayed at Wolong.

  • The twins who were born in Japan have been named, Meihin (female) and Eihin (male).

    Meihin, the female cub, was born in early morning of Sept. 13 and Eihin, the male cub, about 70 minutes later. They weighed about 194 grams and about 116 grams at the time of their births.

    They now both weigh over 2kg.
