Canada to Receive a Pair of Giant Pandas

2012-Feb-10

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper met with Chinese President Hu Jintoa on Thursday, where one of the things they talked about was about Canada renting a pair of Giant Pandas for 10 years, which they agreed to.

"Following agreement by Canada and China, the Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens will sign an agreement with the Toronto and Calgary zoos to provide a pair of giant pandas for 10 years of collaborative research on conservation," says the statement.

The pair will spend 5 years at Toronto Zoo and another 5 years at Calgary Zoo. Though currently no details have been provided about which order the zoo will receive the pandas or any details of the costs involved.

More details are expected on Saturday when Stephen Harper is visiting Chongqing Zoo, where he will get up close with some Giant Pandas.
